Reception and Dedication of Memorials to Juan Pulido

3:30 pm

Thursday, May 9

Room 160 Murray Herrick Campus Center

Friends and acquaintances of Juan Pulido are invited to attend a reception and dedication of a plaque and library books in his name on May g Juan, a Cuban student who was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at St. Thomas, died in February of 2001. In his short time at St. Thomas, he befriended many people and had a significant impact on many lives. At this reception, a plaque will be dedicated in memory of Juan. The plaque will be posted in the Grill, a favorite hangout of Juan’s.

Juan was a published writer and poet who shared his passion for literature with friends and colleagues at St. Thomas. It seems appropriate to honor his memory by purchasing and dedicating books in his name to the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library. A group of St. Thomas faculty and staff have assembled a list of titles in the area of Latin American and Cuban literature. At the reception, a list of over 75 books in memory of Juan Pulido will be presented to the library. The books will be purchased with contributions made by members and friends of the University, including members of Juan’s home parish, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, in Miami, Florida. A bookplate with a dedication to Juan will be placed inside the front cover of each book.

All are welcome to attend this special reception. Refreshments will be served.
